She Drives initiates the creation of the Association of Women in Transport – a professional platform for the development of the industry

As part of the She Drives project, the NGO FID presented an initiative to create the Association of Women in Transport, a national platform that will unite women in the transport industry, business representatives, government bodies, expert circles, and partner organizations for the joint development of the sector.

The new Association should become a space for professional development, exchange of experience, strengthening partnerships, and joint work to ensure that women have more opportunities to realize their potential in the transport industry.

The creation of the Association is a logical stage in the development of the She Drives project, which helps women master professions in the transport sector and find employment in the industry. During the implementation of the project, an active community of participants, employers, and partners was formed, which is now ready to move on to a new stage—the creation of a sustainable professional network for mutual support, development, and advocacy.

The need for such an association is also confirmed by the situation on the labor market. According to the World Bank, women constitute about 25% of workers in the transport and logistics sector of Ukraine, with the majority of them working in administrative positions. At the same time, the transport industry is facing a shortage of personnel, which opens up new opportunities for attracting women to professions that were previously considered “male.” That is why the development of a professional community, the exchange of experience, and the joint representation of the interests of women in the transport sector are important for the sustainable development of the industry.

During the event “Launch of She Drives 2.0: Partnerships to attract women to the transport sector,” the vision of the future Association was presented as a platform for developing partnerships, implementing joint projects, professional networking, exchanging experience, and increasing the participation of women in policy-making and development of the transport industry.

Within the framework of the strategic session, the participants jointly determined the future of the association—its mission, values, ​​and key areas of work.

The results of the strategic session will become the basis for the institutional development of the Association. As part of further work, it is planned to develop a development strategy, operational plan, internal policies, and membership rules, create a visual identity and communication platforms, and organize training programs for participants. Special attention will be paid to the development of project management, advocacy, cooperation with authorities, international partners, and employers, as well as the creation of mechanisms for legal and psychological support for the Association's members.

The creation of the Association of Women in Transport should be an important step towards the formation of a professional community that will contribute to expanding the opportunities of women in the transport sector, developing partnerships, and strengthening the role of women in the transformation of one of the key sectors of the Ukrainian economy.

The “She Drives” initiative, which aims to expand the professional potential of women in the transportation sector, is implemented within the framework of UN Women Ukraine’s Strategic Note (2025–2029), with financial support from the Governments of Austria, Denmark, Norway, Poland, Finland, France, and Sweden. The project is implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Recovery, Infrastructure, and Transport of Ukraine and the NGO “Foundation for Institutional Development”.
