Results of the job fair for She Drives participants
The pilot project She Drives, aimed at training and employing women in the transport industry, is expanding. A new component has now been launched as part of the initiative – training women to become truck drivers.

Under this new component, participants will:
- Complete training for “C” and “CE” driving license categories.
- Receive Code 95 certification.
- Gain hands-on experience driving freight transport.
The goal of this new direction is to create additional job opportunities for women in logistics, particularly in the freight transportation sector, and to support retraining in line with current labor market needs.
“More than six months ago, the Ministry for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine launched an initiative to train women as bus drivers, with support from UN Women in Ukraine. Since then, we’ve started training 100 women to help them gain a new profession and enter the transportation field. At the same time, it remains essential to continue training women as truck drivers and to strengthen the capacity of municipal enterprises to provide employment opportunities for women. Expanding the project with these components will allow us to more effectively achieve our goals and promote broader inclusion of women in the transport and logistics sectors,” emphasized Serhiy Derkach, the Deputy Minister of Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine.
“Despite the ongoing challenges posed by the full-scale war, Ukraine’s transport sector remains resilient and determined to move forward. However, a critical shortage of qualified personnel, particularly drivers, continues to be a significant barrier to progress. By incorporating truck driver training into She Drives, we are addressing the gap created by the sudden loss of USAID funding for a similar project, while also promoting a strategic, coordinated effort to increase women’s participation in the transport sector. We reaffirm our commitment to gender inclusion, ensuring that no woman is left behind on the road to economic empowerment. Training and certifying women as professional drivers not only helps meet urgent labor demands but also opens new opportunities in a traditionally male-dominated industry,” said Sabine Freizer Gunes, UN Women Representative in Ukraine.
To continue the project, we are offering training in categories “C” and “CE” to participants who were unable to complete it due to the termination of USAID funding for a similar project.
There is currently no additional recruitment. If you would like to join in the future, please leave your contact information at the link: https://forms.gle/cbagQaTa9jfS5gxHA
The project team continues to support participants who have completed their training as bus drivers and is developing partnerships with municipal enterprises to expand career opportunities.
In particular, those activities include:
- Counseling participants on resume preparation and job interview techniques.
- Analyzing working conditions.
- Collecting and promoting success stories of project graduates.
- Monitoring participants’ employment after training completion.
- Conducting training for managers of municipal enterprises on corporate governance, risk management, and implementing gender-responsive management practices.
“Our goal is not just to train women, but to support them throughout their employment journey. That’s why we continue to assist participants even after their training ends and work with employers to help make the workplace more open and safe for women. We are grateful to our partners at UN Women in Ukraine and the governments of France, Poland, and Sweden for supporting this initiative,” said Kateryna Datsko, Executive Director of the NGO Foundation for Institutional Development.
She Drives not only creates new opportunities for women in the transport sector but also contributes to long-term changes in employment infrastructure, helping to build a more inclusive and equitable labor market in Ukraine.
The project "Expanding the professional potential of women in the field of transportation" is being implemented by the NGO Foundation for Institutional Development on the initiative of the Ministry for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine, in partnership with UN Women and under the financial support from the governments of France, Poland and Sweden.
